About

Lauren Ratner Bujosa, founder

My passion is relationships. When families are in relational distress or can see that distress is imminent, I am the resource to help the family restore balance and connection. I also love working with families that see the value in strengthening familial bonds and want to increase connection before they are in crisis.

Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked for over 20 years in my own family business. At its height, it was the largest privately held salon chain in the U.S. with more than 800 locations and 12,000 employees. I worked in all levels of the organization from hairstylist to operational leadership and training. As part of the 3rd generation, I have intimate knowledge of the unique challenges business-owning families and families of wealth face. Early on in my career, I thought I wanted to lead my family business. I decided to get an MBA to better prepare for the role and responsibility. During my time at Babson College, I realized I was on the wrong path. Not the outcome my family was hoping for! I was living my parents’ dream. I left the family business, launching my own business in a related industry. This was a stepping-stone to getting on the right path.

A unique aspect of our story is that my parents divorced in the early 80’s and continued to run the family company together. As a result of this complicated dynamic, we worked with a family business therapist, and I became fascinated by the work of healing family relationships. I was able to see first-hand the power of doing this work with my own family. Family relationships are challenging to begin with, add in working or managing financial capital together, and the complexities are endless.

I earned a master’s in counseling from Naropa University and a certificate in marriage and family therapy at Denver Family Institute. Since my master’s program, I have trained extensively in family work and completed the Family Firm Institute’s dual certificate program in Family Business Advising and Family Wealth Advising. My approach is mindfulness-based and draws from systems and attachment theory.

As an advisor to families, I am 100% committed to growth and development, both professionally and personally. No amount of money or status can bring happiness or a sense of belonging. True wealth is healthy, connected relationships. I help families have the difficult conversations and lay the foundation for successful joint decision-making.
